Is it just me, or are most matte liquid lipsticks more of a hassle than they’re worth? I’d say a solid 50% of the matte lipsticks I try turn crumbly and crack, dry my lips out, and are somehow impossible to completely remove. I’ve actually been reaching for lip glosses almost every day – they are much lower maintenance.
Well, I filled out an Influenster survey in November and answered a whole bunch of questions regarding lipsticks, foundation, mascara, etc. (If you aren’t familiar with Influenster, they sometimes send you free products in exchange for reviews! You don’t even need to be a blogger). I forgot about it until a package showed up a few days ago, filled with three L’Oreal Paris Rouge Signature Lasting Matte Liquid Lipsticks. Damn, that’s a mouthful!
These matte liquid lipsticks cost $11.99 each, and there are 12 available shades. I’ve only ever tried L’Oreal bullet lipsticks, so I’m not familiar with their usual liquid formula. Apparently though, these are supposed to be more lightweight than their other lipsticks and provide a more colorful, even finish. Let’s look at swatches and how they apply on the lips!
First, I received the shade “I Rule”, which swatches as a medium dusty rose but is a little more purple on the lips. Actually, all three of the lipsticks look different in the hand and lip swatches.
Next is “I Create”, which is my personal favorite. This is a beautiful pinky nude, and is only a tad deeper than my natural lip color. I think it is really flattering with my coloration! It’s a little pinker on the lips than it is in the swatch, as you can see:
The final shade I received is “I Am Worth It”; I am seriously loving these empowering shade names! The tube looks like a warm toned red, it swatches as a neutral red, and it applies as a red with slight blue undertones. Maybe it’s a magical, color-changing lipstick 😉
As you can see from the swatches, the lipsticks are opaque and pigmented, yet they aren’t really a true matte. The “I Am Worth It” (red) shade reflects the most light. “I Create” (pinky nude) is the closest to a true matte, but there is a tiny bit of reflection. And before you think I’m being picky, I actually really love the finish! I think a little bit of reflection is more attractive than a completely matte finish, and if it allows them to wear this comfortably then I’m all for it.
The lipsticks have a slight cooling effect when you apply them – or maybe it’s all in my head – and they seep into your lips & feel like a second skin. It’s easy to forget that you even have lipstick on once they’ve dried down. There’s no crumbling or cracking, and they don’t dry your lips out. They are not kiss-proof, or resistant to food. On the flip side, that means they are pretty easy to remove.
I am living for these ultra-comfortable lipsticks! I’m an ESL teacher, so I do a LOT of face exaggerations while speaking. If I wear the usual matte lipsticks, my lips end up all crumbly and gross looking after a few classes. But these keep my lips looking gorgeous all day! I think these are worth the 12 bucks, and I’m going to check out their other shades.
I hope you found this review useful!
