I spend way too much time on Instagram. I can’t help it; I love to look at pretty flatlays of makeup! Over the last couple months though, I’ve noticed an interesting addition to many of my favorite bloggers’ photos: crystal facial rollers.
And oh Lordie, they are super cute. Seriously, a facial roller is the perfect photo prop. But I had my doubts as to whether or not they actually work – and I didn’t want to drop a lot of money on a beauty tool just because it looks cute.
One of my favorite beauty bloggers, Miss Pettigrew from MissPettigrewReview.com, released a facial roller duo on Amazon. Most facial rollers cost anywhere from $15 – $30, but her duo is only $25. They were also on sale at the time, so I just had to scoop them up!
Okay, I really can’t get over how cute these look on my nightstand. The duo came with a Rose Quartz “Unicorn” roller, and a Jade “Mermaid” roller.
Both rollers are really sturdy. The brackets are welded on to the handle, rather than glued. The rollers have a large cylindrical crystal at the top, as well as a smaller crystal at the bottom – the latter is perfect for reaching your delicate undereye skin.
Here’s how to use the rollers: “Roll gently from the center of the face outward and upward onto the cheeks, toward the collarbone and working outward toward the sides of your neck. Roll the crystal facial roller starting from the center of your neck, upward and outward. Continue for each section of your face. The smaller ends of the rollers can be used for targeted rolling on your eye area, forehead, nose, lips, and chin.”
The first thing I noticed about these rollers is how cooling they are! You can put them in the freezer to get them extra cold, but they are already refreshing.
The “Unicorn” Rose Quartz facial roller is supposed to help absorb your skincare products. I’ve been using it after applying my nightly serums, and I’ve noticed that it eliminates the usual sticky residue. I’ve also read that rose quartz crystals have healing and anti-aging benefits, but I can’t really attest to that. My skin texture has been gradually improving, but that could be due to my serum and creams rather than the facial roller.
The “Mermaid” Jade Facial Roller is supposed to help reduce puffiness and prevent wrinkles. Fun fact, Chinese empresses used jade rollers all the way back in the 17th century! I like to stick the jade roller in the freezer, and then use the smaller crystal sphere on my undereyes. I have to wake up at 4 a.m. for work, and my eyes are usually so puffy! I used to wear serum coated eye masks for a few minutes each morning, but this is a more affordable and less messy alternative.
Overall, I really like the Miss Pettigrew Unicorn and Mermaid Face Roller Duo. I can’t attest to whether they actually have anti-aging and healing properties. But, I do know that the rose quartz roller helps my face absorb skincare products better, and the jade roller soothes my puffy undereyes. I definitely wouldn’t pay $25 for one roller, but I do think it is a good price for the duo.
