Will Mineral Foundation Cover Cystic Pimples? [Mineral Hygienics Review]

Hello friends! I have tried out mineral powders several times in the past, and have always reverted back to liquid foundation. Why? Because my skin is prone to getting giant cystic pimples, and I have never been successful at covering up their magnitude & redness with mineral powder. One product that comes to mind is the Jane Iredale Powder Foundation, which covered absolutely none of my redness.

Anyways, I recently received two shades of mineral foundation from a company called Mineral Hygienics. I decided to wait to try them out until the next time I got a cystic pimple (thankfully, this is no longer a daily occurrence). Well, today I woke up with a big, throbbing zit right between my eyebrows. It feels like a marble under my skin, and is super painful to the touch. I kind of feel like a unicorn. 😉 So, I’m going to put Mineral Hygienic’s mineral foundation to the test!

Mineral Hygienics is a makeup company that strives to create beauty products with as few ingredients as possible. They don’t include icky fillers that can be bad for your skin. Most notable, is the absence of Bismuth Oxychloride, which many other mineral makeup contains. This inorganic white pigment is in so many products, but can be an irritant to your eyes and skin. Mineral Hygienics has a whole page on their website talking about this ingredient, and why they leave it out of their products.

The products they sent me were two mineral foundations; one in the shade Fairly Light, and the other in the shade Light. They currently have 15 foundation shades on their site. A regular size contains 20 g,and costs $20. A large size contains 40 g, and costs $25.

Fairly Light, pictured above, was the best match to my skin. It is the 3rd palest foundation in their lineup.

Light, pictured above, is a little too dark for me right now. I will hold on to this, and use it in the summer when I have a bit of a tan.

I also received an application guide, which was really useful! It informed me on the proper way to buff in the foundation, and I also learned that it takes a few minutes for the minerals to warm up to your skin.

The card also claimed that it should not look like you have product on. So, I decided to add that to the list of things I was testing for. In order to give this product a good rating, it will need to cover my cystic pimple, and also look like bare skin.

Mineral Hygienics also came sent me their Full Coverage Kabuki Brush, which I used to apply the foundation. Mine smelled a little sulfuric, but that disappeared with a quick rinsing. I quite like this brush. It is firm, and I didn’t notice it shedding any fibers.

Here is a picture of my skin without any makeup on. Other than the big zit brewing between my brows, I didn’t have too many blemishes.

And here is my skin after applying the foundation:

I was shocked! I’ll admit, even though the foundation was supposed to be full coverage, I didn’t think it would cover my redness so completely. What I really loved about this was that it gave me the coverage of a liquid foundation, yet without any of the heaviness. And guess what… it really did look like bare skin! It was so crazy! The minerals melded with my skin, and i just looked like I had a glowing complexion. Here is a close-up of my skin.

This was mind-blowing. I’m fully aware that I’m gushing, but I just can’t help it! WHY is this not the #1 brand of mineral skincare??

This is perfect for me to use in the mornings when I get ready for work. Here’s what usually happens: I get up at 4:30 a.m. (yuck), and I typically look exhausted & try to remedy that with makeup. So I use liquid foundation to erase blemishes, cover dark circles, and give me an awake look. But then my skin feels sticky from the foundation, and I know it will come off later – so I set it with powder. But then… my face looks flat and pale. So I highlight and contour. And then my face looks great but it looks weird that I’m highlighted and contoured without having my brows and lashes done. And next thing you know, I’ve spent 30 minutes on my makeup when all I wanted was a little foundation! Mineral foundation, on the other hand, cuts out all of that. I can literally just put some on in 30 seconds, and be good to go.

Or, I can incorporate it into a fuller makeup look, as I did today. I think it gives me a fresh-faced look, and I’m loving it.

Overall, I really freaking loved this foundation. The two things I was testing for was whether it would cover my redness, and whether it looked like bare skin. And it did both! I am giving this a rating of 5/5. If you want to check out Mineral Hygienics for yoursed, click here.

I love mineral foundations! I’ve tried several and there only a couple out there that I will actually go back to because the coverage is so good. I’ve never tried this brand before though, so I’m going to have to give it a try!

Try the Jane Iredale pressed powder it has saved my skin! I had acne prone skin and any makeup I used would cause breakouts. The Jane Iredale powder also does a great job at covering my hyperpigmentation caused by my acne.
