Hello friends! Today, I wanted us to take a look at the Winky Lux Kitten Palette. I received this in my November Boxycharm, and I decided to dedicate a whole post to it. Let’s dive right in!
This is the first product I’ve ever tried from Winky Lux, so I wanted to do a little research about the brand. They are a relatively new company, at only two years old. Their products are cruelty free, paraben free, and non-toxic. Their packaging tends to be pink and girlish, and they carry many colorful lipsticks and eyeshadows. Their brand has such a young, fun feel!
The Kitten Palette contains 9 eyeshadows, which are a mix of glitter, satin, matte, and “holographic”. Actually, none of the shades are truly holographic, but we’ll touch on that later. The shadows are inspired by the velvety texture of kitten fur, and are ultra soft to the touch.
Let’s take a look at each of the shades.
Row 1
Purr: A soft, baby pink shade that is buttery and has a wet sheen when applied.
Duchess: A matte cream shade that is perfect for setting primer.
Strut: A matte sandy brown shade. Not especially pigmented, but still gorgeous.
Row 2
Holographic: Regardless of the name, this is NOT holographic. It is a duochrome opal shade that is absolutely gorgeous – albeit misleading.
9 Lives: Appears blue with light glitter in the pan and in swatches. When applied to the eyes, it turns to a muddy grey.
Cateye: A shimmery bronze shade; by far the most pigmented shade in the whole palette!
Row 3
Romeo: A rust shade, which has a wet sheen. I am loving this in my outer corner.
Cheshire: This matte shade is hard to pinpoint. I’d say it’s a cross between mauve and mulberry. It is not very pigmented, and it’s quite patchy.
Boots: A matte brown that is also patchy and not super pigmented.
I am very impressed by the satin shades and the “holographic” shade. However, the mattes and the one glitter shade (9 Lives) could be improved. I understand that 90% of the time, shimmer shades will be more pigmented than matte shades. However, if a palette is $25 for 9 shades – and 4 of which are mattes – I would expect the mattes to at least not be patchy. And the one glitter shade, 9 Lives, has almost no glitter in it. It has the occasional fleck, but nothing that translates onto the eye. When I try to use it, it looks like I’ve applied a dark grey matte shade. Which is a shame, because it is so beautiful in the swatches!
I know I ragged a little on the shades, but I do like how easily blendable the shadows are. And, the colors mix quite nicely on the lids as well. I used the palette to create an entire eye look today. Below, I am wearing Strut in the crease, Cheshire and Romeo in the outer corner, and Holographic all over the lid. I also smoked out 9 Lives under my lower lash line. I quite like the way this turned out!
Overall, I would give this palette a 3/5. Cheshire and Boots are patchy and lacking in pigmentation, and 9 Lives refuses to look anything but grey on my eyes. All of the other shades in the palette are quite gorgeous! I wouldn’t recommend spending the full $25 on this palette; I would wait for a sale. I think the quality of the shadows would put this around $15.
I hope you found this review helpful! What eyeshadow palettes have you been loving lately?

I hope you end up liking it! I just discovered like two minutes ago that the shade “Holographic” makes the most beautiful cheekbone highlight

I LOVE the colour scheme of your blog! The shimmer shades also look stuuunnning, but I do agree that the mattes should be better if the palette has that price tag! Love the look your created too 🙂

Thank you for this review! I too received this palette in my Boxycharm box. I agree that the “holographic” is more of a duochrome amd the price point of $15 is a better fit for the quality of these eyeshadows.
