Ipsy Glam Bag Review (December 2016)

Hello lovelies! I have been receiving Ipsy bags for several months now, but have not done a review until now. Why not? Who knows. But, this month’s bag has really impressed me, and I’ve decided to do a post showcasing the products. I’ve definitely got some new favorite products from this bag.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Ipsy; it is a monthly makeup subscription service. It is $10 a month, and you receive 4-5 deluxe beauty samples (and sometimes full sized beauty products). Every month, I receive at least 2 products that I absolutely fall in love with, and occasionally I get a product that I have been meaning to buy. For example, I saved $20 by receiving Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer in one of my past bags, when I had almost bought it from Sephora a couple weeks prior.

Okay, so let’s take a look at what was in the bag.

The makeup bag itself was very cute this month. It is a maroon-colored velvety texture… So soft, and great for a night out! I wouldn’t think twice about using this as a clutch.

The first thing I pulled out of the bag was Tarte’s Maracuja Oil. I was excited because some of my favorite makeup products are by Tarte.. but I was also nervous because I never use face oils. Those of you who have read my blog for a while might know of my struggle with oily skin and cystic acne. After reading the back of the bottle, I decided to give it a try. The oil is dermatologist tested, and does not contain parabens, mineral oil, sodium lauryl sulfate, or gluten. Plus, it is cruelty free! It showed statistics on the side (which I took with a grain of salt), which said that 96% of users saw an improvement in skin after using the product.

The directions recommend that you use a couple drops of the oil as part of your nightly routine… So I did. And it didn’t break me out! Hallelujah! In fact, my skin feels fresh and supple in the morning. I LOVE this! Plus, the packaging is super cute. There is a little dropper on the inside, and you push the gold button on the top of the lid to get the product out.

Sample Size Retails for $15

Okay, so the next thing I pulled out of the bag was OFRA Cosmetics Bliss Eyeshadow/Highlighter. This is an incredibly creamy, easily blendable champagne-colored highlighter. This is a full-sized product, and can be put in a customizable palette.

Here is the highlighter, with and without flash. It is a little too warm of a highlighter for my tastes, but I will definitely be using this as an eyeshadow! It is so shimmery, and perfect for the holidays. I can see me rocking this with a cat eye and a red lip.

Retails for $12

The next product is Jersey Shore Cosmetics Peppermint Hydrating Lip Balm. This isn’t anything spectacular; just a pretty standard chapstick. I do like that it’s peppermint flavored though, now that we are full-blown in the holiday season.

Retails for $10

Now we have the Aurora Intensely Precise Eyeliner in Cinnamon. One of the first things I noticed was that the packaging said they eyeliner is “totally budge-proof”. So, I decided to put that to the test! The picture below is the eyeliner swatches AFTER 1 minute of vigorous rubbing.

Okay, this is definitely budge-proof. One full minute of rubbing, and I rubbed hard. The liner does feather the tiniest bit, as you can see from the top swatch.. but it is in no danger of smudging. That being said, you need to be careful when putting it on. If you mess up, it is only coming off with makeup remover – and then you have to redo all of your eye makeup.

Retails for $12

The final product in the Ipsy bag was an INSPR Duo Brow Highlighter. Now, I don’t do much with my brows. I haven’t plucked since high school, and pretty much the only thing I do is fill them in with a brow wand. This is the only product in the bag that I probably will end up giving away. That being said, I do think it is a good product. The highlighters are creamy, and the pencil is sturdy. The photos below were taken with and without flash.

Retails for $12.

Just to recap: 4 of the 5 products this month were full-sized (only the Maracuja Oil was travel-sized). The total retail value came to $61, which means you will save over $50 through the Ipsy Glam Bag! I will rate this bag a 4.5 out of 5. Very close to a perfect score; the chapstick just didn’t wow me, and I recently received an identical chapstick but in a different flavor.
