How Much Does My Face Cost?

Hello everybody! I am currently recovering from having all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted, and I look like a chipmunk. It’s pretty awful; my cheeks are about twice their normal size, and my lymph nodes in my jaw are about the size of golf balls. I wanted to do a beauty post this weekend, but there is no way I’m putting my swollen face on here for everybody to see. (I did, however, make a beauty tutorial while still under the effects of the anasthesia. Comment below if you think I should post that!). Anyways, I was browsing beauty blog posts all morning, trying to come up with inspiration. I came across this post, How Much is My Face Worth, over at Currently, Lately. This is a tag that has been going around on beauty blogs, where people tally up the total cost of the makeup products they use. This is usually a pretty startling number, and it inspires people to start looking for affordable alternate brands. Today, I’m going to look in my daily bag and find out how much my everyday face costs…. I’m so nervous! Let’s go.

While I was tallying everything up, I realized that I received some of the products at a steep discount in exchange for review, and that some products came in my Ipsy glam bag for a fraction of the retail price. For those products, I will put how much they retail for, as well as how much it actually cost me. At the end of the post, I will have two totals: one for if I purchased everything at retail price, and one for what I paid out of pocket. Who knows, maybe this will inspire me to only use Ipsy makeup!

AzureNaturals Ultimate Vitamin C Skin Repair Serum  (Retails for $18, received for free)

Estee Lauder Radiance Activator (Retails for $55, received for free)

Estee Lauder Brightening Eye Balm (Retails for $42, received for free)

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation ($39)

Urban Decay Naked Concealer ($28)

Bella Pierre Banana Setting Powder (Retails for $35; cost $2 as part of Ipsy Glam Bag)

Urban Decay Beached Bronzer ($28)

Colourpop Super Shock Pearlized Highlighter in Smokin’ Whistles ($8)

Colourpop Super Shock Blush in Cruel Intentions ($8)

Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer (Retails for $20; cost $2 as part of Ipsy Glam Bag)

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Nillionare ($5)

Tarte Lash Paint Mascara (Retails for $23; cost $2 as part of Ipsy Glam Bag)

Mac Pro Longwear Fluidline Eyeliner in Black Track ($17)

Skone Brown Wand Pencil in Chocolate (Retails for $18, cost $2 as part of Ipsy Glam Bag)

Colourpop Ultra Glossy Lip in Bestie ($6)

Retail Total: $350

What I Paid: $147

Okay, this is terrifying. Even with the huge discounts on the Ipsy products, and a couple products I received for free, I am still putting almost $150 worth of makeup on my face every single day! This is my GO-TO makeup routine… So, it’s maybe 1/10th of the makeup that I own. I haven’t even tallied in the makeup brushes that I’ve used!

This activity was pretty eye-opening for me. I’m going to keep my Ipsy subscription running, but I think I will ease off buying new makeup for now. I need to use up some of what I have before it goes bad – because that would be such a massive waste of money. This makes me want to do a tally of all the makeup I own, but I think that might emotionally scar me. 😉 Yikes!

If you think you might be spending too much money on makeup as well, it might be a good idea for you to do this tally. If you are comfortable with sharing, let me know what your total is!
