A few months ago, I wrote a blog post praising the Too Face Born This Way foundation. It worked great with my oily, cystic acne prone skin and made my skin look and feel wonderful. The only problem was the price tag. I’m a broke college student, and paying $40 for foundation isn’t always an option. This month, I’ve taken a look at a much more affordable option: the e.l.f Acne Fighting Foundation.
I have used e.l.f products in the past, and they have been hit or miss. I decided to give this a chance, because if it doesn’t work… well, it was only $6. Nonetheless, I was very impressed with the results. The pic below is of the first time I wore it, before and after application. I used a light coverage for this application, as I was not sure how my skin would react.
Now, this is a picture of me wearing it after four days of using this foundation. I still had a pretty gnarly zit near my nose, but a lot of my red spots on my face had cleared up. I chose to test this product during a time of high stress (the end of the semester, when final projects are due), because I have an awful breakout every year without fail. After using the Acne Fighting Foundation, it looks like I might be able to keep that breakout at bay!
While using the foundation for the first few days, I didn’t wear any other makeup. Here is a pic of what it looks like as part of a full makeup look:
Okay, so let’s look into the pros and cons:
- Cost Effective
- Works great with oily skin
- Some foundations cause my skin to break out in cysts; this didn’t trigger any!
- Buildable Coverage
- Very strong smell
- In the pictures above, I am wearing the lightest shade. People with fairer skin than mine may find that this foundation is too dark.
- Packaging makes it easy to accidentally use too much
Overall, I think this is a good product! I’m willing to put other products to the test; just comment below what foundations I should try.
